March Board of Review

The Flint Township Board of Review for March 2024 will be held in the Board Room of the Flint Township Administration Building located at 1490 S. Dye Rd., Flint, MI 48532.  All appearances before the Board will be by appointment only.  Any questions should be directed to the Flint Township Assessment Department at (810)732-1350 ext. 106.

Taxpayers are able to protest by letter, sent to 1490 S. Dye Rd. Flint, MI 48532 ATTN: Assessment Dept. or email assessingdept@flinttownship.org, provided protest is received on or before 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  Additional information regarding written appeals can be found below.

If you, or your representative, wish to appeal in-person, it is strongly encouraged you contact the Flint Township Assessment Department on or before 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024 in order to schedule an appointment and ensure your time before the Board of Review.  Petitions are available at the Flint Township Assessment Department or you can print them online here.

All agents protesting values on property that is not their own must have a notarized written authorization, with original signatures, from each property owner they are representing.

For safety reasons, masks may be required for all in-person petitions.

 

The Flint Township March Board of Review will meet on the following dates:

Tuesday, March 5, 2024, 10:00 a.m.  = Organizational Meeting

Monday, March 11, 2024, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. & 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. = Appeal Hearing

Tuesday,  March 12, 2024, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. = Appeal Hearing

Wednesday,  March 13, 2023, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. = Appeal Hearing

 The Board of Review will meet as many more days as deemed necessary to hear questions, protests, and to equalize the 2024 assessments.

Written Appeals

Letters of protest will be accepted on or before 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  Postmarks will not be considered.  When submitting a letter of protest for Board of Review consideration, you must attach any and all supporting information and documents to your petition.

Persons on fixed or limited income may be eligible for a reduction in property taxes due to poverty.  Applications are available at the Assessment Department or online at www.flinttownship.org.

 

Authority of the March Board of Review

The March Board of Review has the authority to review the following types of appeals: current year assessed value and current year poverty exemptions under MCL 211.7u.

The Board shall review the roll according to facts existing on tax day, December 31, of the immediately preceding year.  Tax day for 2024 values is December 31, 2023.

July Board of Review

The July Board of Review meets on the Tuesday following the third Monday in July.  For 2024, the board will meet July 16th, from 10:00 a.m. until Board business is concluded.  The Board meets at the Charter Township of Flint Administration Building inside the Board of Trustees Meeting Room at 1490 S. Dye. Rd.

 

December Board of Review

The December Board of Review meets on the Tuesday following the second Monday in December.  For 2024, the December board will meet December 10th, from 10:00 a.m. until Board business is concluded.

 

Authority of the July and December Boards of Review

The July and December Boards of Review have different authorities than the March Board of Review.  The July and December Boards of Review meet to correct Qualified Errors, and to consider appeals related to the Qualified Agricultural Exemption, Taxable Value Uncapping, and the Poverty Exemption.
